Established in 1899 by Emperor Franz Joseph I, Brno University of Technology (BUT) is the Brno's oldest universitt and is the largest technical university in the Czech Republic with a high reputation on the international scale. It is one of the leading teaching and research universities in central Europe. Today it offers high-quality studies in engineering, scientific, economic and artistic fields.  Focusing on science and research, the university now has five of its own research centres and being engaged in two centres of excellence.  The high quality of both the research and teaching at BUT is evidenced by the University’s ranking among the international Top 500 best universities published by the Times in October 2006. One of the basic criteria for the above ranking is employability of graduates.

The university cooperates with both EU and non-EU partners (currently has over 600 agreements) and is engaged in various mobility programmes (Erasmus+, CEEPUS, Aktion, EEA and Norway Grants, etc. . .) Thenuiversity's long-term plan is to strengthen its position among the lading, internaionally-respected research university.
